John Reno: Music

My Little O'Day

(John Reno and the Half-Fast Creekers)
John Reno Veillon, Pelican Shorts Music, BMI
It was an absolutely beautiful day on Mobile Bay.... sunny, 82 degrees, and 5-10 knots out of the SSE. I buzzed a few of the piers on the Eastern Shore (not recommended if you don't have a swing keel or shoal draft.) After a pod of dolphins started breaching all around the boat, I decided that it was a good idea to outfit BamaJama with a PFD, as she felt compelled to join them for a swim.
Damn the torpedoes
Full speed ahead
Winds out of the South-SouthEast
Once again, N.O.A.A. misled
Cast off my docklines
Fly Creeks' in my wake
Pelicans perched on the 4 second red
That I'm about to overtake
Not another vessel on this water today
As I trim the sails
I yell "I own this bay!"
Headin' down to Pirate's Cove
In my Little O'Day
Unaware of my stealthy tack
Girls sunbathe on the piers
Only a swing keel could get this close
For a view so cavalier
Hove-to at Middle Bay
BamaJama in tow
Just a boy and his dog on his sailboat
Oh, don't you know
Not another vessel on this water today
As I trim the sails
I yell "I own this bay!"
Headin' down to Pirate's Cove
In my Little O'Day
Don't you know I've got her rigged out real nice
New main, Harken everywhere
And I've got my dog BamaJama by my side
Good dog, sit, stay!
